Grasshopper Parade

I saw a mention the other day about a hashtag project over at Instagram and uploaded a few of my Costa Rican photos of big bugs and included the hashtag #buggingout to see if I could get featured. Well it turns out that I did! How cool. I Started noticing a bit more traffic on my Instagram feed over the weekend, getting new followers and hearts, and most of them were for my purple grasshoppers. Then this morning the interest for my photos picked up big time and I noticed that it was featured on the Instagram blog.

Paris and Snoop

I had a weird nerd moment after recording the last episode of Nerd Moment! We were talking about our DIY iPhone tripod thingamajigs, and then we got onto the subject of Snoop Dog and how he’s real tall and I’m a big fan. After I uploaded my photo to Instagram of my setup, I looked a little later via Statigram and it just so happened that in my feed, Snoop posted the very next photo in my stream. But not only was that weird, but he was talking to Paris Hilton who thinks Dawn and I rock!

4 year old dreadlocks

Time flies when you’re growing dreads! It’s a little hard to realize that I started these locks 4 years ago today, 5 years really if you count when I stopped cutting my hair, but 4 years from when I went to a salon and had a bunch of fake hair twisted into mine to get the process started. Looking back I would not recommend that method, I wish I would have just had my hair braided and left to lock like I did with a previous batch. But it’s a commitment I made to keep them and look at them now!

When I had them started I had them separated into small sections with hopes that I’d have thinner dreads then I had before, but after a year or so a lot of them combined forces to create stronger thicker dreads and so there’s some interesting forks in them. It’s really interesting to watch as they grow and show signs of time passing like the rings of a tree. I remember when Kelly Orange tightened them up for me with some small hair wraps at the base while she visited us in Costa Rica, and now they’re a good 6″ away from my scalp. So my hair now includes lot of good memories.

Overall I’m very happy with them so far and I’m glad I don’t see any grey hairs sneaking in there yet in my old age. Ye Mon!

I’ve been doing a lot of podcasting again lately, and not just for our D&D show. I started a new show with my buddy JB called 2D1F where we review movies and drink beer, and I just recorded a new Nerd Moment that I should have posted this evening.

Dawn and I just recorded episode #989 which brings us only 11 shows away from the big 1000th show. Pretty crazy! We’re tossing around ideas for the big day but would love to hear some others before we decide…

Storm King Imperial Stout

I’ve been trying more and more different kinds of beers lately, especially now that I’m doing a new weekly podcast (2D1F) where we have a different beer each episode.

Trying so many different types really starts to hone in on what you like or not. I’ve known that IPA style beers are not my cup of tea (or beer), and so I purposefully stay away from them. I am a fan of most stout beers that I’ve tried, but I just had one that tasted more like an IPA to me and therefore confused me a bit.

Storm King Imperial Stout by Victory: We were at a party with a fridge full of interesting brews and like most beer decisions I make, the label struck me as interesting, so I grabbed it and immediately thought I was drinking an IPA and had to double check my choice. Very hoppy and bitter to me, but not so bad that I couldn’t drink it, although I was tempted to give up until I noticed it was a 9.1% beer and felt compelled to finish it. It just seemed wrong to ditch such a strong beer, so I powered through and ended up liking it a bit more towards the end then I did at the beginning.

I’m doubting that I’d ever pick this beer for myself, but if you’re looking for a strong, bitter stout that packs a punch, this is the one.

18'' Northern Pike

I woke up at 5a.m. for the 4th Sunday in a row to hit the ice with a few friends. We went to Crooked Lake again, the first lake we hit this season and also where we caught the most fish so far, I got 2 that morning. Today was a different story. It was cold and breezy, and there was snow on the ice this time at least, but I was the one one to get a fish. I was also the only one to get a bite while jigging. A couple more friends came along later, and a keeper Crappie made an apperance near one of their holes.

Not a very productive day, but it’s nice to have caught one!

I’m really feeling good these days. I’ve been busy with work thanks to my hustling and my P.M.A. & I’m excited about the future. Dawn’s off on a secret mission for an amazing project that we’re keeping under wraps. I’m looking forward to sharing it with the world.
