he’s doing much better for starters. some days he eats great, and some days he doesn’t care about food at all. it all stems from his bad tooth / infection / hole in the face. when the infection flares up, his way of telling me he’s in pain is by not eating. so with the help of our local hero/vet, blanca, we have him on an antibiotic and a natural pain killer. i’ve also had to figure out what he WANTS to eat. i’ve made scrambled eggs, boiled chicken, rice, ground beef, bologna, bread, crackers, etc, etc. the combination that seems to be working, is a little vanilla ice cream and canned turkey cat food. i know dogs aren’t supposed to eat cat food, but at this point i’m glad he eating something!
he sleeps a lot, but when he’s awake, he’s been a lot more energetic and actually barked at a neighbor dog the other morning.
he misses his mommy, and we’re both looking forward to seeing her at the end of the month.

Get well Spec!
drew; i hate to be harsh–i know you & d have been through a lot w/spec. but pets do have an advantage over even us humans in today’s ‘p.c.’ world, and that would be to have the oppurtunity to go out peacefully and w/o pain without others perhaps facing consequences. i’m not trying to be mean or detrimental; only saying what i’ve thought for awhile about spec’s future.
about 10 yrs. ago i had 2 dogs; a collie mix and a dachsund. the collie got a tumor in her brain and there was no ‘fix’–i had to put her down. but the dachsund (he was around 15-16 yrs. old) became completely morose, sad and quiet… many of the same characteristics you’ve mentioned. and so i did what i thought was best, and…
he was a great dog and i loved him very much–but when i saw that his misery was not getting better and that he didn’t seem very happy anymore, i just wanted him to be in a different place.
thx for taking the time to read; i’ve wondered if this option has been thought about by you guys. i know it’s a difficult situation and you’ve done everything you can to make spec feel/get better.
again, not trying to be cruel; i hope you don’t take this negatively and i’m sorry if so.
are you kidding? of course we’ve thought about that. we’re taking the vet’s advice closely and she’s very happy with his progress right now, especially that he’s eating so much. but it’s heavy on our minds.
totally understandable, man. but as a listener, we just haven’t heard this; you’ve always been positive and i’m cool w/that; but since it hadn’t been mentioned and you’ve always been ‘out there’ w/us, i really didn’t know if that had come to mind; or being put out of question–some people are like that as well.
the last thing we want is for poor little doodle bug to suffer.
